When Angela Braddock enters her quilts in an Amish auction, she never expects one of her neighbors to end up going, going, gone....

Angie is finding her niche as the new owner of her late aunt’s Amish quilt shop, Running Stitch. But as the summer is winding down, so is business. To bolster support for the shop, Angie decides to sell her quilts in the Rolling Brook Amish Auction, including some of her aunt’s most prized works.

The quilts promise to be a hit—but the gavel comes down on the lively event when Angie stumbles upon the body of township trustee Wanda Hunt behind a canning shed. The cause of death: a poisoned blueberry fry pie from Rachel Miller’s bakery table. Now Angie’s closest friend is a murder suspect. With Angie taking the lead, she and the other women of her aunt’s quilting circle set out to patch together the clues and stop a killer set on shredding the simple peace of Rolling Brook.

Quilt-shop owner Angie Braddock is shocked when she learns that local business leader and councilwoman Wanda Hunt died after eating a poisoned homemade fry pie. Circumstantial evidence points to Angie's Amish friends bakers Rachel and Aaron Miller but she knows the couple wouldn't commit such a crime. Meddling on the behalf of the Amish is not always welcome, but Angie garners enough support from her quilting circle to figure out who was angry enough to want Wanda silenced. It doesn't hurt that handsome Sheriff James Mitchell finds her amateur sleuthing helpful. Mix in a couple of playful dogs, a determined goat, and an earnest kitten--who could resist? VERDICT Alan's second outing (after Murder, Plain and Simple) is at turns playful and engaging as the well-intentioned Englisher strives to rescue her Ohioan Amish friends from a bad fate. Using a familiar framework --handsome cop, wise older woman, eager helper--the author writes a satisfyingly complex cozy. Alan is a pseudonym for librarian-author Amanda Flower.
