When Tom's parents leave him for a week with his uncle, he doesn't expect to find adventure. Narrator Toby Longworth sounds too old to be convincing as the adolescent Tom, but listeners will still get sucked into Tom and Uncle Harvey's journey from London to Peru in search of long-lost treasure. Longworth is expressive and maintains a pace that allows listeners to follow the action as Tom and Harvey evade criminals and unravel the secrets of the journal that they hope will lead them to chests of silver and gold. Longworth uses accents to distinguish between characters and to add to the sense of place. Action, mystery, and a dash of history make this a solid choice for adventure fans.
